MacWorld 2007: Was das iPhone alles nicht kann
Während "die halbe apple-Welt vom neuen iPhone schwärmt und die andere Hälfte vor Begeisterung im Koma liegt" (Basic Thinking), hat Jupiter-Analyst Michael Gartenberg etwas Wasser in den Wein geschüttet. In seinem Blog zählt er auf, was das neue Super-Handy von Apple Inc. (seit gestern ohne "Computers") alles nicht kann:
1. It's not extensible by third parties, only Apple. The means at the moment no RSS readers, no Slingplayers.
2. There is no support for Microsoft Office attachments.
3. Not clear how well Exchange will work with calendar and contacts
4. No 3G support. (WiFi makes up for this in some ways.)
Vor allem der letzte Punkt dürfte in Europa ein Problem darstellen: Ohne Unterstützung für UMTS noch HSDPA macht das mobile Surfen vermutlich wenig Spaß. Und abgeschottete Welten statt Offenheit ist auch kein schöner Zug von Apple (auch wenn es im Fall von iPod/iTunes hervorragend geklappt hat).
Trotzdem ist auch der hartgesottene Jupiter-Analyst schwer beeindruckt: "The iPhone is the most beautiful and functional phone I have ever seen. First time I held it, I was speechless for more than a few seconds."
Thomas Knüwer hat dagegen noch etwas Wichtiges herausgefunden: Zum Wählen einer Telefonnummer mit dem iPhone braucht man eine Stanzmaschine. Das kann ja nichts werden.
