Blockt T-Mobile Twitter?

Heftige Diskussionen in den USA: Nachdem einige Kunden des Mobilfunkanbieters T-Mobile festgestellt haben, dass sie keine Twitter-Nachrichten über dessen SMS-Service verschicken können, blühen die Spekulationen. Angeheizt wurde die Debatte durch eine angebliche Mail von Marianne Maestas vom Customer Relations Department bei T-Mobile USA. Darin steht u.a.

"Twitter is not an authorized third-party service provider, and therefore you are not able to utilize service from this provide any longer."

Und weiter: "T-Mobile would like to bring to your attention that the Terms and Conditions of service, to which you agreed at activation, indicate ... some Services are not available on third-party networks or while roaming. We may impose credit, usage, or other limits to Service, cancel or suspend Service, or block certain types of calls, messages, or sessions (such as international, 900, or 976 calls) at our discretion. Therefore, T-Mobile is not in violation of any agreement by not providing service to Twitter. T-Mobile regrets any inconvenience, however please note that if you remain under contract and choose to cancel service, you will be responsible for the $200 early termination fee that would be assessed to the account at cancellation."

Diese Antwort (so sie denn stimmt) lässt vermuten, dass es sich nicht nur um ein temporäres technisches Problem handelt - obwohl Twitter heute wegen einer geplanten Wartung ohnehin nur eingeschränkt funktioniert. Biz Stone von Twitter geht auf jeden Fall von einer gezielten Aktion aus: "Hey folks. T-Mobile has definitely turned us off without notification. At Twitter we make great effort to be in compliance with all the carrier playbooks. We're still trying to find out why T-Mobile has taken this action-as soon as we find out, we'll let you know."

Über den Grund kann man trefflich spekulieren (zumal T-Mobile ja eigentlich Geld mit den Twitter-Messages verdient). "Einige Kommentatoren vermuten sogar, dass T-Mobile einen der vielen Twitter-Clones aufgekauft hat und auf diese Weise einen künftigen Konkurrenten aus dem Netz drängen will", schreibt Karl-Heinz Wenzlaff in seinem Blog. So wie sich im Moment die Stimmung in den US-Blogs entwickelt, dürfte das aber ein ziemliches Eigentor des Mobilfunkunternehmens werden. Denn das wiederholt abgegebene bekenntnis zu mehr Offenheit würde durch solch eine Aktion ziemlich ad absurdum geführt.
